The City of Marlin voted last Tuesday, September 18, 2018 to hire Sheriff Ricky Scaman as interim police chief but that agreement has come to a halt pending an interlocal agreement between Falls County and the City Of Marlin.

According to Falls County Judge Jay Elliot he was not aware of negotiations between the City of Marlin and Sheriff Scaman until it was mentioned to him two weeks ago.

He stated that he didn’t find out that the City Of Marlin was voting to hire Sheriff Scaman as Interim Police Chief until Wednesday, September 19, 2018 via Marlin Pride’s live stream of the special called meeting.

According to Judge Elliot the county commissioners were not aware of the matter until it was mentioned in commissioners court Monday, September 24, 2018.

Judge Elliot said in order for the City of Marlin’s agreement to be effective with Sheriff Scaman an interlocal agreement must be drafted and agreed upon by both entities before Sheriff Scaman can proceed as interim police chief.
