Class of ’06 Marlin High School graduate Cayman Colunga is making his mark in the culinary industry.
After graduating high school, Cayman entered the TSTC Culinary Arts program.
In August of 2009, Cayman landed a job at 135 Prime, a 5-star fine dining restaurant in Hewitt, Texas. He graduated from TSTC in December of 2009 with a degree in culinary arts service.
He started off as a dishwasher and after a series of other light duties, he made his way to the grill.
Cayman, known as Chef Richard by the 135 Prime staff, eventually worked his way to Sous Chef. While having the position of Sous Chef he had more flexibility to showcase his culinary skills. He has a burger on the menu named after him called “The Rich & Juicy”, a signature burger he created himself.
After 10 years of hard work & dedication, Sous Chef Richard has been promoted to Executive Chef.
“This is a dream that has come true,” he said.
Cayman said he got the inspiration to cook from his mother, the late Hortencia Colunga.
He said that he is very grateful for the new opportunity to lead and do what he is passionate about.
