Makayla Curry is the winner of the 2017 Miss Central Texas Pageant. Makayla Curry is the daughter of Heath and Stacy Curry. She was one of the 1st Central Texas Princesses in 2010 and has volunteered at the Arrowhead Run and Robertson County Fair.
Makayla’s Princess was Paisley Groschke and her parents are David and Misty Groschke. Makayla Curry is a junior at Bremond High School where she plays volleyball, softball, and runs track.
Makayla is also a Varsity cheerleader and the co captain of her squad. She is an active member of the FFA and she serves as Treasurer. She is in the National Honor Society and has participated in the Vase art competition in which she had a poem published in the Young American Poetry Digest. After Graduation Makayla plans to attend Tarleton State University to work toward becoming a Veterinarian.
The pageant was held at Marlin High School Auditorium Saturday evening, August 12, 2017.
The contestants consisted of young ladies from Falls, Bell, Limestone, Robertson and McLennan counties. These young ladies represented their families and hometowns very well as they graced the stage with splendor and poise.
In order to help these young ladies prepare, they were required to attend a summer workshop. The workshop consisted of information about interview skills, proper clothing, walking and modeling techniques, etiquette, proper skin care and make-up, proper hair care and styling techniques. These are skills that will not only help them for the pageant, but this is something that will help them advance through life.
The Mistress of Ceremony was none other than Ms. Rissa Shaw, news reporter at KWTX News 10. The winner was crowned by Gracie Tate and she was assisted by Mrs. Bryleen Terry. Over $2,500 in award & scholarships were given out. 4th runner up received a $100 scholarship, 3rd runner up received a $250 scholarship, 2nd runner up received a $500 scholarship and 1st runner up received a $750 scholarship from the Jessica Tilton Yezak Memorial Scholarship.
The winner of Miss Central Texas received a crown, sash, and a $1000 scholarship from Alpha Kappa Sigma Sorority. The winner also received a prize package that included jewelry, luggage, makeup, and additional items.
The pageant judges of the evening were PJae Stanley, Stephen Hodge, Jamie Gobel, Wesley Walker, and Jason Stanley. Each of these judges are extraordinary people with exceptional backgrounds.
