MHS 2nd Annual A.V.I.D. Debate

Sponsored by

The MHS A.V.I.D. department held their 2nd annual debate tournament that began Wednesday, February 13, 2019, and will resume Thursday, February 14, 2019.

The purpose of the debate is to teach students the art & skill of healthy debating. Students are placed on two teams, For & Against. They must present a solid argument on why they are For or Against the issues they discuss.

The topics discussed are:
• Should renewable forms of energy be subsidized by the government?
• Social media impact on relationships (good or bad)
• Does global warming exist?
• Does the no child left behind act cause more harm than good?

Students are judged by a panel of two judges on their posture, eye contact (connection with the audience), delivery, the accuracy of the topic (the facts), and their rebuttal.
