Marlin PD and Falls County Sheriff’s Office apprehended the robbery suspect involved in the robbery of AJ’s Chevron located at 403 Live Oak Street in Marlin.
Friday, May 31, 2019, at approximately 5 pm Marlin PD received a call that a robbery was in progress at AJ’s Chevron. Both Marlin PD & Falls County Sheriff’s Office responded to the dispatch.
When Sheriff Scaman arrived on the scene he saw several patrons holding an individual against a car. The individual was identified as Rafael Hernandez, a 22-year-old Hispanic male from Marlin, Texas.
Sheriff Scaman held the suspect at gunpoint until Chief Deputy Johnston arrived and took the suspect into custody, according to a press release.
Hernandez reportedly tried to steal several cartons of cigarettes and attempted to walk out of the store but was confronted by the store clerk.
The store clerk made an attempt to stop Hernandez from leaving the store but was dragged outside & struggled to detain him. Several customers came to the aide of the store clerk and held Hernandez until law enforcement agencies arrived on the scene.
The clerk sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene and released.
Hernandez was transported to the Falls County Jail where he was booked on the charge of Robbery.
He was later released on a $10,000 bond set by Justice of the Peace, Precinct #2 Debra Trotter.
